Shagreen Earrings

Back in store this week we have our beautiful, colourful popular Shagreen earrings!

Shagreen has been a term used since the 17th and 18th centuries to describe the leather made from the skin of a Ray Fish (Pearl Ray, Hypolophus Sephen).

These skins are naturally covered with round, closely set calcified papillae called "placoid scales". The size of the papillae depends on the age and size of the animal.
